I'm a a Canadian citizen renowned for my Ph.D. research on diabetes treatment using innovative gene-therapy tools. I was selected for a two-year fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Despite meticulous preparation and valid documentation, our journey was marred by discrimination at the US-Canada border. My spouse, an Iranian-Canadian, his visa was refused because of his forced conscription 26 years ago, leading to his expedited removal. The separation has been agonizing, especially for our children, one of whom had to return to Canada to be with their father. Despite relentless efforts and support from Harvard and advocacy channels, my husband's visa application was unjustly denied after a prolonged administrative process. This injustice has inflicted profound emotional distress and upheaval in our lives, straining our family bonds and thwarting our professional aspirations.
